So I’m pretty sure you’ve noticed a quite shift in posts. As we move into summer things will be shifting a little bit and Glam & Fit posts will be on Wednesdays for the time being! The complete schedule change will be explained more in a future newsletter, but lets get into this week’s G&F post.

yoga downward facing dog pose
We’re about a month out from the official start of summer so what better way to ease into it than with some relaxing yoga moves. I have been doing yoga a little more than usual, and even attended my first outdoor yoga event. I’ll also be at the Wanderlust yoga event this weekend (May 31) at Grant Park.

With that being said, I thought we’d spend the next few weeks breaking down some of my personal favorite and key yoga moves… hence the “Glam & Fit Decoded” title. To get this thing rolling we’re starting with a yoga must and a move in my list of top three… Downward Facing Dog!

The great thing about this pose is that it’s not only a stretching pose, but a strengthening pose, a transitional pose, a resting pose and an inversion pose. This is like the HG of HG yoga poses… if that makes sense.

While in the pose, your body looks like an upside down V with your hands placed shoulder width apart and your feet hip width apart. You should always be pushing away from the ground and this is a great place to rest or alternate bending each leg to help further loosen up the body.

Of course we have to talk about the benefits! These can include a decrease in back pain, stronger hands, wrists, lower back, hamstrings and calves; a decrease in tension and headaches, decreased anxiety and deepened respiration and increased body circulation. All in all this pose is the business! Check out a beginner friendly yoga routine below!
