IS IT REALLY HAPPY IF IT HAPPENED TWICE?

Happy Death Day 2U

Happy Death Day 2U, the sequel to the breakout slasher-horror of a similar name, dropped over President’s Day weekend. I’ll be the first to say that I don’t think we needed a sequel to this movie but it was still fun to see the next day following Tree’s birthday. It was Groundhog’s Day meets The Flash as we were introduced to some other genres this time around.

Listen Now – To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Starring Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard, this sequel featured elements of comedy, sci-fi, a little romance-drama and a dash of slasher. It was definitely a melting pot of some things I love and some not as much. I enjoyed that we explored these other genres and the sci-fi element really worked for me. The comedy was a little hit and miss, which isn’t surprising for me, but the strength was for sure Tree and Carter’s chemistry.

THE VERDICT?

We get to see Tree live her birthday over and over again but in a different dimension. This could definitely cause some fatigue but overall it was an enjoyable ride. Do we need a third movie? Of course I’m going to see we don’t but we do get a set up in the end credit scene for a possible third installment. With all of that being said, I’m going to rate this a C+.
