I GIVE MY UNCENSORED OPINIONS ON AQUAMAN & THE FUTURE OF THE DCEU

Aquaman hit theaters this pre-holiday weekend coming out on top as the newest addition to the DCEU. The action packed film stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe and Patrick Wilson. I’m discussing my thoughts on the overall plot, the visuals and what the future of the franchise looks like. This is definitely an episode you’ll want to listen to.

My biggest gripe with this movie is surprisingly the length which is essentially tied to the plot. I felt like for this to be an origin story, we could’ve trimmed the story line down a little to make for a more concise plot. It does feel a little heavy handed and like we’re trying to accomplish a lot in a film that’s supposed to further introduce the audience to this world.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not all bad opinions over here. The visuals and action scenes literally turn it all around for me. I mean, you guys know I love some good fight choreo and under James Wan’s direction the action scenes are perfection. I was a little hesitant about the underwater scenes but the final offering was gorgeous.

We get a setup for a possible sequel with our mid-credit scene which finds our somewhat forgotten (and not necessarily needed) villain Black Manta coming face to face with Dr. Stephen Shin. This can only mean the two will go up against Arthur in Aquaman 2.

THE VERDICT?

Overall, this was a light and visually pleasing movie that will fair well with audiences. The overall story line leaves in too much and adds on weight to a long and sometimes drawn out movie. This entry in the DCEU gives me hope for the future of the franchise but there’s still some work to do. All of that being said, it’ll be a B- for me.
