Fantastic Beasts Crimes of Grindelwald

The second installment in our Fantastic Beasts series left a lot of us feeling somewhere in the middle. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of the Harry Potter franchise but this latest addition didn’t quite have me doing cartwheels. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is one you’ll either love or hate.

As with the first Fantastic Beasts, the standout for me was Eddie Redmayne. I definitely feel like he felt more comfortable in this role and boy can he play innocent wonder so well. It was also good to see Jacob back on the scene with his memory in tack. These two are definitely the ones I’m most invested in.

Other than that, there was a whole lot of everything going on which created a messy, convoluted plot. I didn’t feel invested in any of the other characters outside of Dumbledore but that’s mostly for nostalgia. Visually, this was a beautiful movie and I still found our featured beasts adorable.

THE VERDICT?

There are still three more movies left as we make our way towards 1945 and the big face off between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. Will I still be invested once we reach our destination? That’s still out for debate seeing as we’re only in 1927 after kicking things off in 1926. We’ve still got 17 more years to go. Hopefully things pick up in the third movie but until then this is definitely a C+ for me.
