SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)

It was hyped up and I was honestly slightly disappointed in how everything played out (I just really wanted someone to die)… but hey, it was a great episode nonetheless. Let’s get into the recap below!

We open up with SWAT teams, I’m assuming, searching everywhere for Rowan. They look in the hole where they find a smug Maya, Mama Pope. Maya thinks that Olivia is going to stick up for her but she proves her wrong by telling Fitz to have her charged and put in jail.

Huck shows up at Kim’s house trying to talk to Javie but Kim freaks out about him talking to him. She checks on Javie to see what happened and yells at Huck for filling his head with his spy lies. Quinn finally gets in touch with Olivia to update her on Kubiach and how he’s connected to Elizabeth. While she’s on the phone with Quinn Elizabeth shows up pissed because she found out that Olivia lied about her phone to protect Cyrus. Olivia lets her know that she knows about her affair with Andrew but she throws Cyrus back at her.

Olivia tries to warn Cyrus that something is about to happen when Abby interrupts them to let them know that the NY Times contacted her about photos of Cyrus. Olivia briefs Fitz and his office on what’s going on with Cyrus and tells them about Elizabeth’s affair with Andrew while Mellie is in the room. The photos leak and brings bad press on the White House. Fitz tells Olivia that they will fight it and she comes with a plan that includes Cyrus and Michael having an arranged marriage in which Michael readily agrees. Cyrus isn’t for it because he doesn’t want to marry a prostitute and disrespect James.

Jake gets surveillance footage from the night that Rowan escaped the restaurant and as he’s leaving a guy comes up behind him to shoot him. Jake is quicker and kills him before finding a playing card with his photo in the guy’s pocket. He takes it to Huck and Quinn and tells them that Rowan is cleaning house. He tells them to watch their backs before leaving to go after Rowan himself. Quinn leaves and meets with Charlie to warn him about Rowan but he thinks she’s doing it because she really likes him and it turns into this weird make out session.

OPA find out the last meeting Elizabeth and her crew had was the night before Caitlin was killed so Quinn uses Kubiach’s finger to get into the law office building. She finds the appointment book with a name and code. Jake shows up at Olivia’s office to give her a gun for protection from Rowan. She doesn’t believe that he would kill her but he tells her that he could say the same thing about her. He gives her a few pointers and tries to convince her that they can still leave and stand in the sun, but she tells him that the sun went down a long time ago.

Elizabeth meets with Andrew and tells him that she still hasn’t heard from Kubiach but Olivia is on her ass before that start getting it on in his office. Meanwhile, Fitz walks into his office to find Cyrus who wants to hand in his letter of resignation. He tells Fitz what he’s going to do and that he needs to build himself up by knocking Cyrus down and the only way to help is for him to leave. After long hesitation Fitz finally takes the letter and thanks him for his service.

David subpoenas Abby to question her about Cyrus and during this he finds out that she was with Leo the entire night of the night in question. David gets visibly upset and leaves the room. Meanwhile Charlie is at Quinn’s apartment when she finds a kill card for her in Charlie’s pocket. He tells her that Rowan threatened to kill him if he didn’t kill her and it turns into a fight of life or death.

Huck tracks Rowan to a location outside of Connecticut and Jake goes there but he Rowan isn’t there because he’s actually at Olivia’s house. He threatens her to sit with a gun and tells her that he told her that he was going to leave her alone but she won’t stop until he’s dead. She tells him that he was never going to leave because he’s not normal and he’s a sick lonely man who only knows how to lie. Rowan goes off and tells her that there wouldn’t be an Olivia Pope without him and tosses his gun as he stands up to go into one of his monologues. He tells her that she’s the one who can’t be normal and she has no comprehension of love as Olivia sits there with a smirk on her face.

She grabs the gun and points it at him and he tells her to watch herself. She pulls the trigger but it’s empty and Rowan screams telling her that she just shot her father. He then tells her that never in a million years did he think that she would be willing to pull the trigger. He then reminisces about the album he had with him and tells her that no matter how hard she may try to deny it she will miss him when he’s gone.

Back at Quinn’s place she and Charlie are still alive but very bruised and bloody. Charlie tells her that he can’t kill her and then tells her about his grandmother passing. She tells him that she should call him more but he ruined Huck’s entire life. He tells her about some of the files he kept as insurance from the ones he confiscated from David that could possibly help.

Olivia pays her mom a visit to find out where her father could have gone. She tells Olivia that she needs to move on and that she’s just like her father. She tells her that Rowan ruined her and Olivia starts crying but Maya tells her to cry her a river. Olivia stops and tells her that she’s leaving. After she leaves we see Maya get a little emotional. Olivia goes to check on Cyrus who’s packing to get away. He’s upset about the press surrounding him and that his entire career is jeopardized because of the photos. Olivia shows him some tough love and tells him to grow up– the Cyrus she knows would hide and give up but would fight. She asks him who he is and he tells her he’s the most powerful man in the country and she asks if he’s a bitch baby. He tells her he’s no one’s bitch baby and she tells him to show her that he’s not so he goes on national television with Michael to announce their “marriage”. It turns the negative press positive and Cyrus goes back to work.

Elizabeth shows up at Mellie’s office to talk about Fitz not going to war but Mellie isn’t buying it. She tells her that their not friends just because they’re both sleeping with Andrew and tells her to watch her back when re-election time comes. Olivia stops by the Oval Office and sees Fitz, Abby and Cyrus celebrating and decides not to go in but to let them have their moment.

Kim returns home to find Huck on her porch with boxes of files about why he is how he is, asking her to just read them. He returns to OPA and Quinn, bruised face and all, is there. She tells him that she found out that the West Angola situation is an acronym and Andrew is behind out. At the same time Andrew shows up at Fitz office talking crazy and Jake shows up at Olivia’s house where she’s in a great mood and doesn’t want to talk about her father. She tells him to let it go and coaxes him into dancing with her and he tells her that he loves her. She tells him that she wants Vermont with Fitz and the sun with him but she’s not going to choose either one of them because she’s choosing herself. She tells him if he’s not going to dance with her he can get off her dance floor and it turns into a make out session. He goes to get a pillow and blanket from the room and returns to the living room to find Olivia gone. We go back to Fitz and Andrew tells him that he has the one person he would do anything for.

Some takeaways…

– So this episode wasn’t bad, it’s definitely one of the top episodes. Had Olivia killed Rowan boy buddy… But I’m glad she’s finally realized that she needs to think about herself first. Still– we got crazy ass Rowan running around somewhere and he can pop back up at anytime.

– So totally didn’t see this Andrew thing coming and all because he wants a war? Yea I’m a little confused on that point but at least we have an entire second half of the season to explain what just happened. I honestly don’t have any predictions because I honestly don’t know where we’re going with the Andrew and Elizabeth revenge team.
