SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)

The writers of Arrow sure know how to make a premiere episode, that’s for sure. I experienced so many emotions I don’t even know where to begin. Let’s just get into the recap shall we…

We open up with a chase because.. why not? The team, consisting of Oliver, Diggle, Felicity and Roy, is working together to stop an illegal shipment of RPGs. After the action, we get caught up a little. Oliver is broke and Felicity is helping him trying to get his company back. Diggle is preparing for the arrival of his baby girl and Roy is like Arrow 2.0.

The flashbacks take place 5 years ago in Hong Kong with Oliver on the run. He’s been escaping his captives but they always retrieve him– this time stopping him from contacting his mother through email. He’s being held captive by Amanda Waller and thinks Oliver is an asset for her but he won’t cooperate. She decides to use force to convince him. Oliver is staying with a family and he learns that Waller has threatened his family and he will be held responsible if Oliver escapes.

Quentin, Detective Lance, is out of commission and can’t serve in the field anymore. He holds a press conference to tell the city that the police is recognizing the Arrow and will no longer hunt him down. Meanwhile, Vertigo is back with a new pusher who has changed the drug so that your greatest fear hunts you. Werner Zytle or the new Count Vertigo is determined to kill Arrow.

Oliver decides to take Diggle’s advice and asks Felicity out on a date. At first she thinks he’s playing but once she realizes he’s not she agrees. Felicity works at a tech store, convenient, and is summoned by Oliver for assistance during a high speed chase while also asking her what she wants for dinner during their date.

Oliver and Felicity have their official first date and it was a collective awwww. It totally starts off cute and awkward, thank you Felicity. Oliver tells her that he hadn’t always been on the island when he was missing, but that he had also been to Hong Kong. He opens up and tells her about his trust issues and how she helped him, how he noticed her. As they’re talking The Count’s crew launched a missile of some sort into the restaurant and Oliver pushes Felicity out of the way just in time.

Oliver wakes up and finds Felicity passed out. He takes her back to his lair. Roy finds a tracer in his jacket and they realize that the people they took down earlier was a setup. He calls Detective Lance to get the information of the person he took down right before Felicity wakes.

He goes to the location and finds Detective Lance there waiting for him. He gets a sneak attack from Count Vertigo who sticks him with a Vertigo laced needle in the neck. He has a trippy fight against his greatest fear, himself (really Count Vertigo). Count Vertigo is about to stick him with another needle when Detective Lance shows up and starts shooting. Oliver gets away but Quentin starts having chest pains and collapses. Count Vertigo is about to attack Quentin when Oliver shots him in the back with an arrow. Count Vertigo escapes while Oliver calls Felicity to get an ambulance.

Oliver is fine after his Vertigo bout, as well as Quentin. He has Roy go out and look for Count Vertigo and makes Diggle go home to Lyla, against Diggle’s wishes, until this whole situation blows over.

Ray Palmer, the guy who asked Felicity for help at her tech job, to go against Oliver in the running for taking over Queens Consolidated. Oliver gives a sympathetic speech while Ray goes for a more approachable approach. He even hacked into their records, thanks to a little involuntary help from Felicity. Oliver is convinced that Ray will get get the position and tells Felicity about what happened with Count Vertigo and the new Vertigo. He tells her that his greatest fear was himself and he was scared to let himself let go

Roy finds out more information about Count Vertigo and Felicity is able to track down the men because they’re out on parole and have ankle bracelets and they’re at a boxing match. He tells Roy to suit up but tells Diggle that he doesn’t want him out in the field because he doesn’t want him to jeopardize his family. Diggle is not having it but Oliver won’t back down so Diggle leaves.

The men set up a bomb to go off during the match. Roy goes after the bomb and Oliver goes after Count Vertigo. He throws another Vertigo laced needle at him but Oliver overcomes it and they start fighting and who comes out of the shadows… Black Canary– Sara! Her and Oliver fight on the rooftop while Felicity coaches Roy on how to stop the bomb. He stops it with no time to spare while Oliver puts an arrow through Count Vertigo’s chest.

After the fight, Sara gives Oliver some good advice and tells him that they’re not they’re masks and needs normal people in their lives. At the hospital, Felicity runs into Ray and we find out that she hacked into his computer and replaced all of his information with porcupines. Diggle and Lyla’s baby is here and Diggle thanks him for being right about what he needs to do for his daughter.

Oliver tells Felicity that he can;’t be both Oliver and Arrow. Felicity tells him to choose because he can’t keep dangling her. He kisses her and tells her never to say that he doesn’t lover her but she tells him that as soon as he talked she new it would be over and leaves. Oliver gets a call from Barry Allen and goes to meet him (totally should watch The Flash for that conversation).

Sara meets with Laurel since she’s back in town but doesn’t want to let her father know she’s back yet. Laurel gets a call from Oliver and Sara tells her to take it. They hug and both leave to go their separate ways. Someone stops Sara and she asks them why they’re there. They shoot her in the stomach with three arrows before she falls off of the rooftop to her death– and Laurel is on the ground when she falls off.

Some takeaways…

– You guys have no idea how excited I am for this season. I feel like this is the only show that really, really gets me excited about the fall season.

– Are you freaking kidding me?? I was not ready nor prepared for Sara to die this soon. I was just doing flips after she made her surprise appearance during the fight with Count Vertigo. This hurts almost as much as Moira’s death, and y’all know how I felt about her death. When don’t know who exactly killed her but arrows… Oliver… I can see it looking like he did it but we all know that’s not the case. We do know that Ra’s al Ghul will be making an appearance this season, as well as Nyssa al Ghul so ish is going. To get crazy. I totally think that Sara’s death is what leads to Laurel eventually becoming Black Canary (I’ve been holding onto this prediction for awhile so we shall see).

– I’m so glad that Team Arrow is legit. The only thing is that I felt like they were trying to hint that Diggle may be taking a step back from the fight for a while which I would not be happy about.

– I don’t know what kind of training Roy went through over the past six months but holy smokes I’m 100% for it! We know Thea is off with Malcolm probably getting some trading so their reunion is going to be one for the books.

– Again, I’m so excited about this season of Arrow. The premiere was freaking amazing. Just when you think they can’t do any better they do this. It’s going to be an amazing season!
