SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)

So the final 30 seconds of this week’s episode left me and all of America asking the same thing. Let’s just get right into.

We open up the show with Jake doing a monologue that doesn’t really make sense. We then find ourselves outside a room where Sally is prepping for the debate. Leo has called and flown in her pastor from her home city to try to help get her back on track. Sally ends up confessing to the pastor and then tells Leo that she plans to confess to the world her sins because that’s the only way that she’ll be able to hear God’s voice again.

David has turned all of his info about Sally killing her husband over to OPA. He wants OPA to help him make sure Sally and all those involved are convicted for Daniel’s murder. Olivia goes to Cyrus and tells him that she knows and that he should’ve came to her. He tells her that he has it under control and to help him keep this quiet, especially from Fitz. She tells him that they were supposed to run a clean campaign this time and she can’t be apart of a scandal again so he’s on his own.

Jake has hired Quinn as the “receptionist” of B613 or “Acme” and tells her she has to earn her way into becoming an agent. Olivia goes by his apartment and tells him she wants to be normal, for them both to be normal. Sensing something is wrong he tries to get her to talk to him but she resists. He tells her about all of the things he has to take on as Command and if she says the word they can run away; he pretty much asks her to save him from his reality.

Leo goes to Cyrus to tell him that Sally plans to confess at the debate and that they need to delay it. Cyrus tells him that it’s impossible to delay or cancel the debate since it’s planned months ahead of time. Cyrus calls Charlie to get him to do a job but he tells him he can’t do anymore freelance work and if there’s a problem he’ll have to take it up with the new Command. Cyrus goes to Jake and tells him he wants to have Sally killed. Jake tells him he can’t do that because he’s not going to get entangled in the White House’s personal mess. Cyrus goes into his monologue about how if Sally confesses it will effect not just them personally, but everyone. No one will trust the government anymore, people will stop paying taxes because they’ll believe that their money went to covering up a murder and there will be no democracy anymore.

Jake goes into his own monologue telling Cyrus that he’s a mouse on a wheel trying to stay just a little bit ahead so that his problems don’t catch up to him. He tells him that he doesn’t have the time to deal with his and the White House’s personal issues. When he returns to “Acme” a defiant Quinn goes off on him about why she has to be the receptionist when no one else has ever had to work up to being an agent; Charlie didn’t even know they really sold paper. She tells him that he’s doing this to her because he thinks Olivia really loves him and he doesn’t want to hurt her by making Quinn an agent. She tells him that Olivia only cares about herself and that there is no family or loyalty for her.

James stops by Cyrus office, but Cyrus is distraught (and obviously scared) after his visit with Jake. He tells James to go home, that he loves him and to kiss Ella for him. Sensing something is about to happen, James goes to David and tells him that they need to move forward with getting the story out about Sally killing Daniel.

Cyrus goes to Olivia and tells her about Sally’s plan to confess and that she needs to somehow delay the debate. Olivia pays Sally a visit and Sally, calling Olivia the devil to her face, pretty much tells her that she’s not going to budge because she can’t hear God’s voice anymore. For her that’s a major issue and she believes confessing is her repentance and God will forgive her and give her a sign that He’s still there. Out of options, Olivia calls Fitz and tells him about Sally, how Cyrus and Mellie covered it and that he needs to throw the debate. Fitz is mad and tells her that he has no plans to throw the debate.

Jake stops by Olivia’s apartment and immediately notices something is wrong. He tries to talk to her and even alights to knowing about the whole Sally Langston thing. He comes to the realization that Olivia is still going to try to help Fitz and this is where ish gets real.

Jake meets with Tom, his inside man at the White House, and tells him that he’s ordered to kill Sally at the debate if she goes off track and it looks like she’s about to confess. He tells Quinn that she’s no longer a receptionist, but an agent and gives her her first orders which is to break into OPA and get all of the information they have on Daniel Douglas.

At the debate Sally is flustered, Cyrus is close to another heart attack and Leo looks like he’s about to have an anxiety attack. Fitz is not backing down from Sally’s attacks. After sensing Sally may confess, Tom goes and takes his position in the ceiling with his gun pointed at her ready to shoot. Sally tells everyone that she has a something to confess. As she’s about to spill everything, and Tom has his finger on the trigger Fitz steps in at the last minute cutting her off and Sally sort of comes to and starts attacking Fitz and his character.

After the debate, Leo visits Cyrus in his office to pretty much thank him for throwing the debate and rub it in his face about Sally’s ratings going up. He tells him that he’s closer to taking over his office and the first thing he’s changing and taking care of the incessant buzzing sound. As he leaves, a confused Cyrus tries to figure out what buzzing sound he’s talking about. After moving his phone he notices it gets louder as he gets closer to the picture on his desk. He takes it apart and finds the microphone and immediately knows that James put it there.

James gets a text from Daniel about everyone meeting and as he’s leaving the house Cyrus appears. Cyrus tells him that he knows about the picture being bugged and that this entire thing is his fault. He tells him that he loves him and that James can do whatever he wants. He doesn’t blame him for being angry at him and that he never should’ve go him involved. James breaks down and tells him that he was so angry and that Cyrus broke up their family.

Olivia goes to Fitz and tells him that he has to come to terms with how things really are. Fitz is mad because he wanted to run a clean campaign. She tells him there’s no such thing as a clean campaign and that every does these things to protect him. She also tells him there’s no Vermont and that he, they both, have to stop pretending that things are what they really aren’t… then they passionately make out.

Later that night, James shows up at the meeting place and finds David and the two women already there. James tells him that he’s not going to go through with it anymore. He really did all of this because he just wanted to get an apology from Cyrus. David tells him that he still plans to go through with it because he’s done burying stories. James tells him that he expected him to be a little more reluctant and not actually go through with calling a meeting. James tells him that he didn’t send the text, he thought James had and they both start to panic.

We get Jake’s monologue again, about how he’s had to do things that he wasn’t proud of and how he’s had to kill people. As his monologue is going in the background we hear a shot and see one of the girls fall. The second girl is then shot and both James and David are covered in blood. We then see Jake come out of the shadows and he points two guns, one at David and one at James who are both frozen in fear. The screen goes black and we here one shot…

Some takeaways…

– The last 30 seconds were intense! I knew someone was going to die this season, I just didn’t know it was going to be last night. Since we only heard one shot the writers want us to believe that someone didn’t die between James and David. I want to say James was killed, because I mean that’s a no-brainer, but then it could be David just to throw us all off. I hope it’s James because I feel like the writers can still do a lot with David.

– Where were Huck and Harrison… and Mellie… they were obviously missing and it’s kind of weird after they had important roles in the previous episode. Especially the whole Adnan and Mama Pope angle which we were left with at the end of last week’s episode. While I appreciate that they didn’t try to cram everything into this one episode like last week, I do think the missing story lines were too apparent.

– So what do I think is next? I think David is alive, but missing. Olivia is going to find out that Jake was behind all of this and that’s going to cause a major riff in their relationship. I’m pretty sure we’re going to see Huck and Harrison in the next episode and hopefully find out exactly what Mama Pope is up to.
