Fall seems to be the time that I wear nail polish the most. There’s just something about wearing rich colors, metallics and fun designs that just makes some of the brutal fall and winter season a little more bearable. In preparation for the season, I added a few new polishes to my collection, including two from Maybelline’s trendy nail polish line Color Show.

These polishes have been around for a while, but this was my first time buying any of them. My logic had been that I already had polishes similar to the simple colors in the line. I was only swayed to buy this time because I spotted the fun, different and funky “Trend” polishes. I got one from the Vintage Leather collection called Mod Moss and one from the Polka Dot collection called Dotty.

I wore each polish for about a week (if it made it that long) using my regular nail tools, a base coat by Sally Hansen and my Won’t Chip top coat by Orly. I started with Mod Moss, a matte very dark black-green polish with very subtle gold flecks. I didn’t like how it looked matte, it almost looked like I’d dipped my nails in tar and let it dry. I decided to add my Won’t Chip top coat which gave it a glossy finish which I actually liked. The downside to doing this is that the polish chipped and peeled almost instantly. That day I got a couple of chips and by the next day I had to peel of one nail, like it literally just peeled right off. So by day three I took it off all of my nails. It came off fairly easily with nail polish remover.

The bottom line… If you get the matte polishes don’t use a top coat. They will last a little longer without the top coat and won’t peel so easily.

I tried the Dotty polish next. I like this one because although it was a sequin polish once on it looked like someone sat there and polished dots all over your nails. I got the most compliments with this one. I used a base coat and my Won’t Chip top coat. It was pretty simple to apply, I used about 3 coats to get a lot of the dots on each nail. Once dry my nails were smooth to the touch; I will warn that if you let any of the sequins dry hanging off the edge of your nail it will chip or peel sooner and you’ll snag everything you touch. This polish lasted for about a week and I removed it by chipping it off with my nail since it came off easily that way. I have heard of some people having a difficult time getting these particular polishes off.

The bottom line… Loved this polish and definitely recommend it!

For both polishes I highly stress wearing at least a base coat for easy removal once you want to take it off. These retail for for less than $5 depending on where you buy them. I’ve seen them for as low as less than $3 at some stores. You can find them at just about any drugstore that carries Maybelline products.

Would I buy again? I’d definitely buy more of the trend polishes just to spunk up my nails every once in a while but I’ll buy my basic shades from my go-to brands.
