Since summer is coming to an end soon I wanted to update you all on my healthy living and fitness journey. As you know I’ve spent the past few months trying new workout routines and foods and I’ve pretty much had my summer workout plan on lock. I spent majority of the summer outdoors walking 4-6 miles 2-3 times a week and doing light weight training. The biggest part of my journey that has drastically changed my overall appearance and feelings has been what I’ve eaten.

Being a vegetarian for as long as I have, you can get a little comfortable. I drastically cut down my soy consumption to about 1-2 times per month. I’ve completely cut out processed foods (not including some snacks) and I’ve been giving fruits and vegetables that didn’t quite work out years ago a second try. I incorporated more snacks into my diet so I eat a little more often throughout the day. I always have breakfast; whether it’s a smoothie, fruit and yogurt or even an egg white sandwich bought on the go. Eating breakfast is essential to maintaining a healthy weight.

My typical daily food routine consists of a light breakfast consisting of a fruit and veggie smoothie or mixed fruit, yogurt and a little granola. I pack snacks for throughout the day which includes nuts, cut up fruit or granola bars. For lunch I usually have a mixed green salad topped with cucumbers, tomatoes, dried cranberries, almonds and a little balsamic dressing. Dinner is usually my biggest meal and a lot of it can be seen on Instagram. It always includes a green veggie, a grain (usually quinoa) and protein from Quorn.

Once it starts to get cold again my workout routine will change and I will add a little more cardio into my routine. I personally believe that toning and weight training has helped me out better than doing mostly cardio. I will also be doing my first 5K next month with my dog Mystre for Petco’s annual walk/run. Don’t get me wrong, I indulge every once in a while but I think being concieous of what you’re eating, how often you’re eating and your daily activity levels will help keep you on a consistent journey.
