It’s the middle of summer! As we head into warmer and longer days, it’s important to remain active and hydrated despite the sometimes sweltering heat. Check out our three fun tips to stay active this season!

Visit a local fair or festival

Summer usually means more outdoor activities. Getting a little exercise doesn’t mean you have to run 5 miles a day. Look for weekend festivals and fairs, and plan to spend the day visiting vendors and soaking in the local entertainment. Walking around from table to table will keep you on your feet while experience fun outdoor activities.

Don’t negate your hard work of browsing by indulging in high caloric festival food. It may be a task, but pick the better options; look for food that’s portioned, pick water instead of pop, dilute large drinks with lots of ice, choose an unsalted pretzel instead of funnel cake with the works. Remember moderation is key!

Work out in the park

Get out of the gym and into the sun! During the summer many local parks and beaches offer free morning fitness classes. Get in on the action and develop a habit throughout the summer that you will take into the colder months. Typically on Saturdays, classes can range from yoga to Pilates to Zumba. Whichever one, pick a class or two and stick to it! Your end of summer results will amaze you, plus you’ll get a chance to break out of that four-wall fitness chamber.

Cool off with a little water

Water activities are a great way to stay cool and active while having fun. Visit your local beach or lake and see what kind of services they offer. Canoeing, water skiing, paddle boats and other activities give you a great workout while maintaining a fun atmosphere.
