I have been looking for a really good, creamy hair product to aid in slight hold and definition for my braid-outs.

Since my hair has gotten longer I opt for dry braid-outs and typically go 1.5-2.5 weeks between washes.  I have very kinky, coily hair and have stuck to using shea butter and a water/oil mixture to achieve big, fluffy braid-outs.  I have been itching to try Shea Moisture Deep Treat styling cream, but would have to order it offline because my local Target does not stock any of the natural hair products.  Before I give in to paying for shipping, something I completely despise, I wanted to do a thorough sweep of my local grocery stores.  I was in Walgreens heading down the hair aisle toward the register with the Hollywood Olive Oil cream in my hand and a dissatisfied look on my face when I came across the new Pure Clean line by Garnier Fructis.  I picked the smoothing cream up, read the ingredients and saw it was 98% naturally-derived and looked at the Hollywood Olive Oil cream in my other hand… looked at the smoothing cream again and then back at the Hollywood cream and decided to go with Garnier (after squeezing some product on my finger and testing out the consistency).

What the product claims:

A 98% naturally-derived smoothing cream for all-day frizz control with zero heaviness.  Strong hold.

Directions: Rub a quarter-size amount of cream between palms.  Work the cream through damp hair and style.

Ingredients: Water, Beeswax, Isopropyl Myristate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Glycerl Stearate SE, Benzyl Alcohol, Caprylyl Glycol, Cetyl Esters, Hydroxypropyl Guar, Acacia Senegal

inReview:

The verdict is still out on this one because this is an instant review.  I used the cream on freshly wash, 90% dry hair.  I worked it through sections using a spray bottle and sealed with olive oil then plat braided the section.  When I took it down my hair was soft and a little more defined compared to when I use shea butter.  Since I wore my hair in a twisted up-do I cannot comment on the wear-ability of the definition.  It did smooth down my edges and I had minimal frizz.  The big test is on an actual braid out which I will be doing the rest of this week… so stay tuned.
