Spring is just around the corner and it’s time to get your body in shape and ready to wear all of the fabulous spring trends and clothes! Simple lifestyle changes make it easy to adapt to a healthier routine. So we’re rolling out the Glam and Fit challenge! We’ll have health and fitness specific posts that will help you to not only feeling great about yourself, but look great as well! These basics are a great way to start out and get you moving in the right direction! Check out our basics or essentials below!

Breakfast

Breakfast is a must! The earlier, the better. Breakfast kicks your body into gear and you burn more calories throughout the day (and losing calories is always a good thing)! Yogurt and granola with a piece of fruit is a great meal starter option. It’s all about making sure you have a variety of food groups to start off your day. In a rush? Smart Ones has great low cal breakfast sandwiches. Pop it in the microwave and enjoy with a piece of fruit or yogurt!

Small Snacks

Frequent small (and healthy) snacks also aid in burning more calories throughout the day. Prepare mixed nuts or granola and package in snack bags for quick hunger satisfaction. Cut up fresh fruit, yogurt and dried fruit are also great snack options.

Water

Of course water is a definite must. It can be hard to keep track of how much water you’re drinking. Buy 1.5L prepackaged water or reusable bottles. You have more water and you almost trick yourself into believing you’re drinking less water because you’ll drink 2-3 bottles compared to 4-6 bottles in the smaller size.

Movement

Movement and exercise are essential to living a healthier lifestyle. We’ll discuss exercise in later posts, but movement throughout the day is key. Take a quick walk on your lunch break, walk part of the way to work instead of hopping on the bus, take the stairs instead of the elevator if possible. These small changes will make it easier to endure through the harder parts of living better when you reach future obstacles.
