SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)

There were definitely a lot of surprises in this episode as everyone sprung into action to try to save Olivia once again. Check out the recap below!

We start off where we left off; with the trade. They meet with a woman who is speaking to someone on the phone in another language. She tells Gus that she’s saying she has men in place and once she confirms her identity they’ll kill them. He tells her to stay out of it because she doesn’t speak the language so she gets the woman’s attention and in her language tells her that once the guys get the money they plan to kill her (this is Liv thinking smart on her feet). Gus goes to talk to her but she stops him and tells them that the deal is off and everyone can go they’re separate ways without getting killed. One point for Olivia.

At the White House everyone comes out of the Situation Room happy and Abby tries to get information from Cyrus but he tells her he doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Mellie gives Andrew an Amnesty Agreement to sign meaning he’ll walk on the condition that Olivia returns safely to Washington. She then rubs it in his face that he’s pretty much a loser and he’s doing all of this because he wants to be a winner for once. She then threatens that if he tries again he’ll be taken down but he comes right back and tells her that he can easily whisper all the naughty things she likes to a reporter. He also tells her that while he may not be the president ever she won’t either. Ouch.

Fitz and the CIA come up with an extraction plan to rescue Olivia or so he thinks. The director presents another plan seeing as Olivia previously worked in the White House and has very valuable information on other countries. She tells him there’s a 30 percent chance that they can safely extract Olivia and it seems she was suggesting that they might have to neutralize the situation but Fitz wasn’t having any of that.

Fitz tries to explain to Cyrus why his decision is sound but Cyrus, in his mind, reads Fitz for filth calling him an moron and a child. Once he gets out of his head he tells Fitz what he’s saying sounds good. Meanwhile, Mellie meets with Lizzie to tell her that she owes her for getting her out of her bind with Huck so she needs to make sure Andrew stays quiet and doesn’t go running his mouth.

Abby is venting to David when he puts it in her head that the worst case scenario is that someone is holding the president on a leash, Olivia is that leash and they might try to neutralize the leash. Abby is very adamant that Fitz would never do that. Back at the White House Cyrus secretly meets with the CIA and tells them that they need to neutralize the asset and they agree. Abby sees him talking to them and confronts him but he threatens that if she talks he’ll have her arrested. He tells her that the state of the nation is more important than one individual and if Olivia is sold in the auction she will have to die.

Jake returns to OPA to tell them that Olivia is okay and the Iranians dropped out of the bid. Huck springs into action and tells them they need to get back on the dark net and start bidding. Jake thinks it’s the appropriate time to talk about Huck and his need to kill telling him that everything B613 did to Huck they did to Jake too. He reveals his thing is the sound of bones breaking but he doesn’t let it out and Huck needs to keep his locked away before he ends up at a point where he can’t get out. Huck tells him Olivia locked it in for him and Jake tells him he has to learn to do it on his own.

Huck goes to check on Quinn and tells him that if they lose Liv again he needs to promise that he won’t kill anyone. He promises just as Lizzie shows up wanting to talk. She tells him about Andrew’s Amnesty deal and wants him to do whatever it is he does and make him hurt because she wants power. Huck declines and tells her that he doesn’t do that anymore.

The auction is intense and Marie Wallace “OPA” and the Russians tie at two billion dollars. The guys don’t know what to do so Gus asks Olivia what she thinks they should do. She tells them to go with Marie Wallace then asks for more money when they make the exchange. Gus calls her on her bullshit and tells her that he knows Marie Wallace means something to her so he gives the winning bid to the Russians.

Abby goes to OPA to see if the won but they didn’t. She tells them that the CIA and Cyrus are going to kill Olivia so the Russians can’t use her as a bargaining chip. She tells them that if they have anything in their back pocket they need to use it now and then leaves. Huck goes and injects Andrew with something then brings his body to Lizzie telling her to call the police and tell them that he collapsed so now they’re good.

Everyone else springs into action. Abby tries to tell Fitz but they’re interrupted by Cyrus so she asks David if he knows anyone in Interpol. Jake pays Maya a visit and asks her if her old Russian buddy might know anyone apart of the bid. After some prodding she tells him about Press Scott Lake and he goes there and finds Rowan. Jake tells him what’s going on and of course we get a nice little monologue that ties into fishing telling him this entire situation is predictable. Jake just responds with “she’s your daughter” and Rowan tells him he doesn’t have a daughter.

Abby tries to get into where the CIA is meeting but the guard is like not today I’m not losing my job over you. She tries to call Cyrus who is in the room watching footage of the exchange. He ignores the call repeatedly and tries to talk the director into doing an extraction at the last minute but the missile is already in place.

The agents are ready to fire the missile once they get eyes on Olivia but Cyrus tells them to wait. The director doesn’t want to wait and tells them to launch it but he tells them not to and has them zoom in. After zooming in he tells them that he knows the man at the exchange. They hand her over to the Russians and we see that the leader is actually Stephen and Olivia is safe. She takes Stephen’s gun, shoots Gus in the leg and starts kicking the shit out of him.

We find out that Abby contacted Stephen and got him to intervene and Cyrus tells her well done. We also find out that the Russian gang owed Stephen a favor which is how he was able to intercept her. She asks him to come back to OPA with her because they need him but he tells her that he’s happy where he is. He then thanks her for saving him and she thanks him and boards the helicopter to return to Washington.

So whatever Huck gave Andrew caused him to have a major stroke so he pretty much won’t talk every again. Mellie visits him in the hospital and tells him he brought it on himself. The CIA director interviews Olivia to see find out any information about her captors and she has a semi anxiety attack. Jake Huck and Quinn escort her home where Huck installs topnotch locks on the door. Everyone leaves and she hears someone approach the door. She goes to lock it but it’s Fitz. She lets him in and he starts asking questions. She tells him she wasn’t rape but she learned that there are worst things than rape.

She’s upset that he went to war and he tells her he did it for her. She tells him she wanted Vermont, she’s rode for him– everyone sacrificed for him spewing off a laundry list of names. She tells him everything she did and sacrificed was to keep him there so that he could make history. When the true test came along he threw it all away by going to war over her when she was in the predicament she was in because of him. He tells her he had to save her but she screams that he didn’t, she’s on her own and then throws the ring he gave her at him. Fitz just stands there looking shocked and confused and Olivia goes to the door pretty much tell him to get out.

Some takeaways…

– So didn’t know that it had only been a week since Rowan left. The mid-season premiere made it seem like Olivia has been missing for months. I guess that would explain why Abby may not have realized sooner that Liv was missing.

– Not gone lie, I loved Olivia’s little speech to Fitz at the end. Everything she said was the truth and Fitz be too much in his feeling for me.

– Can we just talk about Andrew for a minute… That is a messed up situation. At least Huck kept his word and didn’t make him bleed.

We won’t have a new episode until March 5. Were you surprised to see Stephen return to save Liv? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
