Nyssa Returns

Nyssa is pissed. She hasn’t heard from Sara since she left two week’s ago. Oliver goes to tell her that she’s dead but she figures it out. She somehow knows she was killed with an arrow and demands to know where her body is. Oliver tells her and she leaves while he sends Roy after her to track her because he believes she knows something. Nyssa finds Laurel at Sara’s grave and she offers her condolences. Laurel shuts her down and pretty much blames Nyssa and Ra’s al Ghul for turning Sara dark.

Nyssa gives her side and tells her that she loved Sara and took her in when she found her scared and alone. She then tells Laurel that she’s not fit to wear the leather jacket that she gave her as a gift before leaving. Roy gives her location to Oliver who finds her in an abandoned house which happened to be Sara’s safe house. He tries to convince her to help him find out who Sara’s killer is. Nyssa tells him that Sara was there on assignment to confirm a rumor that an enemy of the league was in Starling City which happens to be Malcolm Merlyn.

Malcolm Merlyn’s Trail

Nyssa tells Oliver and team that Malcolm was released by her father from the league but his undertaking was against what the league believed in. When he “died” they considered the matter taken care of but if he’s not dead he needs to meet his demise. They found a drive belonging to Sara that had pictures of a very alive Malcolm out and about in various locations.

The trail led her back to Starling so they’re going to retrace her steps. They light up the blank piece of paper that they found in her boot that was written with ghost in. It has some writing that they don’t understand but one clue leads to Detective Lance. They send in Laurel who lies about Sara asking her to a look into something involving Jansen. While there Nyssa shows up and she tells her that her father doesn’t know that Sara is dead, but Nyssa believes she should tell him so he can avenge his daughter. Quentin gives Laurel the address after a brief, and awkward, exchange with Nyssa.

Oliver and crew go to the address where they expect to find Jansen, someone who they think helped Malcolm. Nyssa takes a full on approach while Oliver and his team split up.Nyssa finds him first just as Diggle and Roy find Jansen’s grave. Oliver goes to assist Nyssa who has her arrow pulled demanding Jansen give her information. When he turns around it’s not Jansen but Malcolm. He escapes with an explosion and Oliver nicks him on the shoulder as he’s running away.

The Hunt

Oliver grazed Malcolm with a tracer laced arrow– thanks Felicity, so that he can easily find him. Laurel isn’t happy about that and thinks he should have killed him on sight. Laurel demands to know if Oliver will kill him when he finds him but he tells her he’s not a killer anymore. Laurel leaves and Nyssa goes after her while Oliver sends Roy to watch over Thea just in case Malcolm tries to contact her (too late). Since Felicity is in Central City Diggle takes over her job and is in charge of finding out Malcolm’s location.

Laurel is upset that Malcolm is not only alive but he killed her sister. She doesn’t want to talk to Nyssa but Nyssa promises that she will find him and Laurel tells her that when Oliver finds him she can’t let Oliver let him go. She has to do whatever it takes. Meanwhile, Roy finds Thea at the club redecorating and offers to help which she accepts.

Diggle gives Oliver Malcolm’s location but tells him not to tell Nyssa because she’ll kill him before he can get any answers. When he gets to the location Malcolm isn’t there, just a phone which is on speaker and he’s on the line. Malcolm tells him that they need to talk, it’s a public place that’s non combative and he has to come alone. If he sees anyone on Team Arrow he won’t see him.

The Meeting

Oliver goes to the location and finds a smirky Malcolm who tells him that he didn’t kill Sara, but that Starling is still his city and he knows he’s not killing people these days. He tells him that it’s illogical for him to kill the love of Ra’s al Ghul’s daughter’s life when he’s trying to get a blood bounty lifted off of his head. He tells him that he came back to Starling for Thea after he had to save her from one of Slade’s Mirakuru soldier’s during his attack. He realized that Thea needs him since Oliver is always out being the Arrow. Oliver tells him to stay away from Thea and he tells him that he’s kept his distance but Oliver is too distracted to protect his sister. He then swears on Thea’s life that he’s not Sara’s killer before disappearing into the crowd.

Oliver meets Thea at a coffee shop and tells her that he promised not to keep anymore secrets. He asks her about the night of the siege and she lies and tells him that she was saved by a cop. Oliver tells her that it wasn’t a cop but Malcolm Merlyn and Thea plays it off well telling him that he’s dead. He tells her that one of Sara’s friends saw him and he’s indeed alive. She thanks him for telling her before being interrupted by one of her “investors”.

Oliver tells Nyssa that he didn’t kill Malcolm because he didn’t kill Sara. She tells him he doesn’t know that for sure and he tells her that he swore on his daughter’s life. She realizes that Oliver knows who his daughter is and he tells her it’s her sister. He tells her that he returned to Starling to protect Thea and that’s why he didn’t kill her. Nyssa isn’t buying it and leaves telling him that she also made an oath to kill Sara’s killer. Oliver tries to go after her but he’s stopped by Diggle who thinks it’s not such a bad idea if Malcolm dies because the world would be a better place without Malcolm in it. He tells him he understands why he can’t kill Malcolm but Nyssa didn’t make a vow not to kill and Roy, silently in the background, nods his head in agreement.

The Face-Off

Thea and Roy are leaving the club when Nyssa shows up and hits Roy with a needle which knocks him out before taking Thea. Malcolm goes to Thea’s apartment to find it empty right before he sees a purple cloud of smoke in the distance outside the window. A now functioning Roy is back at the lair with the rest of the team and Oliver has told Laurel that Malcolm is Thea’s father. She gives them footage from a traffic camera showing the purple smoke and they believe it means Nyssa is signaling Malcolm and she has Thea.

Oliver has Diggle secure the perimeter so Thea doesn’t see him and makes Roy stay behind since he still has the tranquilizer in him. Laurel believes it’s her fault Nyssa went after Malcolm but tells him to remember that he may not be a killer but Malcolm is.

Nyssa has Thea tied upside down and she’s pissed. Nyssa calls Malcolm the devil right before she’s cut down by Oliver as Arrow who tells her to run. Thea runs and it’s a face-off between Nyssa and Oliver. Nyssa is out for blood and she almost has him but Malcolm shows up. He only wants to clear the air but Nyssa is not here for it. She and Malcolm go at it and he pins her to the wall with arrows. Oliver shoots some wires above Malcolm’s head and he’s temporarily down. Nyssa demand Oliver kill him but Malcolm pleads his case tells them that he didn’t kill Sara.

He tells them that they might want to consider Ra’s al Ghul because he didn’t trust Sara after Nyssa brought her back. Malcolm tells him if he doesn’t belive him, kill him. Oliver tells him that he may not have killed Sara but he has murdered countless others. Malcolm tells him that no jail will be able to hold him, he’s been trained by the league. He tells him he only has one option, kill his sister’s father. Of course Oliver doesn’t do it and he escapes.

The Aftermath

They return to the lair and Oliver tells them that Thea is fine right before Nyssa socks him in the face… like really hard. Roy asks what’s going on and Oliver tells them that Malcolm didn’t kill Sara which means her killer is still out there. Nyssa calls him a fool who insults Sara’s memory, but he tells her that he will honor her memory by finding the real person who murdered her. Nyssa turns to leave but he stops her and tells her that as long as Malcolm is in Starling the league can’t touch him because he’s now under his protection. She asks if he will incur the wrath of the League for Malcolm and he tells her that he will do whatever is necessary to buy enough time to find out what really happened to Sara. She tells him that he’s made an enemy before leaving. Laurel asks him if he’s sure about Malcolm and he tells her he’s 100% sure or he wouldn’t have let him go. Enter Felicity, late to the party asking what she missed… oh you’ve missed quite a lot.

Laurel is at the the boxing ring training and Nyssa shows up to tell her that she will make good on her promise to her. She tells her that if they had been at the cemetery she would’ve told her she wasn’t strong enough but now she thinks differently. She leaves her with a tip about turning her hips for more power before sauntering out.

Detective Lance calling Sara and leaving her a message telling her to remember that he loves her and that he doesn’t have to call him back. Oliver stops by the club to check on Thea and tell her that her kidnapper shouldn’t be bothering her anymore. He tells her that he will always watch after her right as Roy shows up. Oliver leaves and Roy apologizes to Thea for not being able to stop her kidnapper. She thanks him and tells him that she could use an assistant manager. He accepts right as she gets a call from her “designer Curt”. It’s Malcolm checking up on her and she thanks him for taking care of her and insures him that Oliver doesn’t know anything.

We ends as Nyssa returns to her father and tells him that Malcolm is still alive but Sara is dead. She tells him about her blood oath and he tells her that they will only hold Malcolm accountable for his transgressions against the league because Sara was never truly one of them. He asks about Oliver and she tells him that he’s sworn to protect Malcolm and he tells her that if that’s true he’s in war with the league.

The Flash Back

Oliver is tailing an older who’s supposed to be a terrorist, but Oliver doesn’t think he looks like one. Maseo Yamashiro tells him it’s Waller’s orders. Oliver walks up on the and while he’s eating an ice cream cone and stabs him in the chest, snatching his keys before walking away. Oliver returns to Maseo house a little upset about having to kill someone without knowing why. Maseo tells him that he needs to focus on what’s important. Oliver bribes his son into letting him use his computer and puts in the hard drive he took from the terrorist. After seeing what was on it he demands a meeting with Waller.

Waller isn’t happy about being summoned and tells her that she knows the guy he murdered worked for her. That he had information he was going to reveal and she wanted to silence him. He threatens her and tells her that if anything happens to Maseo’s family he will leak the information online to bloggers. She tells him that she had the plane taken down because she was after one woman, Chien Na Wei (China White), who he saved and she’s now in Hong Kong and she wants to know why.

Some takeaways…

– I really need someone to sit Laurel down and talk to her because she is starting to get on my nerves. I haven’t been one of those people ragging her throughout season two because she honestly didn’t bother. This episode I just wanted to tell her to sit down and shut the **** up. I understand she’s angry and this is what eventually leads her to becoming Black Canary, but right now I just can’t deal with her.

– Nyssa got on my nerves this episode too. Everyone, besides Oliver, is quick to try to kill someone. I think Nyssa knows deep down that she needs to be questioning her daddy, especially after that line he threw her at the end about Sara never really being one of them. Yea my bets on him as Sara’s killer.

– The first two seasons it kind of felt like the League was in the background so I’m excited to see them more in the forefront… at least for the first half of the season. It kind of seems like we have to underlying enemies, even though I don’t think we’ll have that much trouble from Malcolm for awhile… at least I hope not.

– I’m ready to see Thea in some action. I though we might get a little when Nyssa had her but Oliver saved her even though Thea believes it was her father. I’m also kind of glad that she and Roy aren’t a thing. I think they have a lot of individual things that they need to work on, plus they have huge secrets which is never a good thing in any relationship (*cough* Oliver *cough*)

– For some reason I thought this format would make the recap shorter… yea that didn’t happen. At least now you can find certain parts by the subtitles.

Who do you think really killed Sara? Let me know in the comments!
