If you’re a slight germaphobe (okay scratch that legit and crazy germaphobe) then you probably like to sanitize everything. This is particularly important when it comes to your workout gear. From your sweaty clothes to those mats full of germs– these home remedies will keep your gear fresh and clean without utilizing any harsh chemicals.

Yoga Mat Cleaner

Cleaning your yoga mat can often be overlooked and that can lead to many problems… essentially for your skin. You can easily clean your mat with common household items. In a small spray bottle mix one part vinegar with two parts water. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil, shake and clean away!

Gym Bag & Shoes

A stinky gym bag is a no go and smelly gym shoes are the worse! Keep your bag (and shoes) fresh with a deodorizing pouch. In  bowl mix 5 to 6 tablespoons of baking soda with about 20 drops of your favorite essential oil. Cut the feet off of old socks, pour in the mixture and tie the ends. Put the tied tights inside a small pouch, similar to the mesh jewelry bags. Toss it in your gym bag or shoes for a long lasting scent.

Workout Clothes

After a great workout your clothes are probably wet with sweater and stains from your body’s oil… yea gross. Pre-treat your clothes before a wash by diluting your laundry detergent with water and add the juice of one lemon. Scrub the sweaty and/or oily areas with the solution then wash your clothes as normal.
