It’s officially summer and the warm weather seems to be here to stay! The weather this past weekend was too nice not to make one day a beach day. While there I thought of all the things I carried along with me and what you definitely shouldn’t leave home without. Check out my six beach essentials below!

Sunscreen

This is a MUST! The sun is brutal and I can definitely attest to that. To avoid damaging your skin or potentially getting skin cancer, you want to lather your skin with a good sunscreen. I personally use Aveeno Protect + Hydrate sunscreen. It has a broad spectrum SPF 30 and helps reverse skin dehydration with nourishing oat. It has a light skin and absorbs into the skinny easily. Pick it up at your local drugstore or get it here!

Hydrate

The harsh sun will quickly dehydrate your body and you’ll need to continually hydrate yourself throughout the day to keep from getting light headed or sick. For water, I like to drink smartwater or Resource for they’re electrolytes. If you want to go for coconut water, which is equally as hydrating, I like to drink O.N.E. Coconut Water. I feel like it has a mild sweet taste plus it’s naturally fat free and a good source of potassium.

Sunglasses

This is a no brainer. There are so many styles to choose from so I included some of my faves below!

Good reads

gone girl gillian flynn novel mystery
If you’re headed to the beach just to chill and catch some rays taking a book or magazine is definitely a good idea. I’m currently reading Petals on the Wind (thanks Lifetime) but as for what’s on my list: Gone Girl (because we have a movie starring Ben Afleck coming out soon and who doesn’t love a good mystery novel) and A Man’s Promise from my favorite author Brenda Jackson.

Umbrella -ella -ella

As previously stated, this sun is no joke and if you plan to just lay out on the beach you’re going to want to bring an umbrella. Most beaches will have them, but you can run the chance of them all being used by other beach patrons.

Hats

We’re all pretty familiar with floppy hats and that’s definitely a perfect beach day choice but visors seem to be making a comeback. They’re chic, sleek and work perfectly with a ponytail. Go fab with a straw visor or keep it cute in a printed visor.
