Long after you leave New York City, while you wear your ‘I Heart N.Y’ T-shirt, you’ll be thinking about these mouth-watering dining spots that didn’t empty your wallet, but made you wait in line. These Zagat favorites have become so popular and a part of American culture, that every tourist (and New Yorker) must try them at least once.

Joe’s Shanghai

The original Joe’s started in Flushing, Queens, and now they have two more locations in the city (Chinatown and Midtwon Manhattan), and three locations in Japan. Don’t be surprised if you spot a celebrity at the table next to you, because when the food is this good, everyone’s an equal opportunity customer. People come to Joe’s for their famous soup dumplings, but the rest of the menu will also make you forget about your favorite greasy Chinese take-out. Remember to bring cash, because they won’t bother with your credit card.
